A lumber yard customer processing timber logs was experiencing short belt life. Their chipper had an average belt life of 5 working days. The belt drive had a very low service factor of 0.38, as compared to an ideal service factor above 1.6.

By utilising CAP drive calculation software, we redesigned the drive and installed optibelt SUPER XE-POWER PRO M=S XPB 2500 x 5pcs with new pulleys. The drive was commissioned using Optibelt recommended installation practices and procedures.

The Optibelt drive solution was able to increase the belt life from 5 days to more than 16 months (and STILL running!). The drive is now completely maintenance free (no retension needed). The customer was also able to eliminate maintenance costs, reduce belt stock holding cost and increase production output.
